Weight Loss Surgery Helps Curb Obesity Related Diseases
May 31, 2006

More and more people are turning to surgery to lose weight.  A new study shows more than 82,000 people had weight loss surgery in 2002. That's a nearly six-fold increase since 1998. One reason is new procedures such as lap band surgery, where a surgical 'belt' is placed around the stomach.
But more and more, doctors are finding that weight loss surgery is effective in treating or even curing obesity related diseases like diabetes, sleep apnea and heart failure.
