Face Lift
OVERVIEW
A face lift procedure, also called Rhytidectomy, is
the sagging facial and neck skin is improved by
removing excess fat and skin from the area. The
muscles are tightened and the skin is smoothed. A
face lift procedure is most appropriate for
men and women over the age of 40. |
SURGERY
Face lift procedure involves our North Carolina

removing fat and tightening the muscles in the face,
cheeks, and neck areas. After removing fat and
sagging skin, the skin is then smoothed back over
the area which diminishes lines and wrinkles in the
skin. The procedure is most often outpatient, using
general or local anesthesia, and usually takes
several hours. The procedure effects usually last
for 5 to 10 years depending on the patient. |

RECOVERY
Patients are advised to take it easy after a face
lift procedure, and not engage
in any strenuous activity for at least two weeks or
more. There is usually some temporary bruising and
swelling in the face and neck areas. Some patients
report a numbness and tight feeling in the face. For
men a common side effect is the permanent need to
shave behind the ears, as the beard growing skin has
been repositioned to be higher and pulled back. Most
patients heal within 10-14 days, with bruising
lasting for usually 2-3 weeks. Patients are advised
to avoid sun exposure for a few months and no
strenuous activity for at least 2 weeks.
RISKS
The face lift
procedure is one of the most common cosmetic
procedures done today, with usually little or no
complications involved, however a small percentage
of people can experience injury to the facial
muscles and nerves that control feeling and
movement. Also damage can be done around the facial
contours and the hairline can become asymmetrical.
As with all surgeries other risks include infection
and bleeding. |
